Aluminum railings are made of hollow round, square or rectangular aluminum profiles. They are made of aluminum alloy following the norm EN AW-6063 [Al Mg0.7 Si] with a wall thickness range 1 to 3 mm.
Once they are shaped, the profiles are subjected to anodizing. The layer, achieved through the anodizing, is the second sturdiest substance known, with only the diamond ahead of it. Initially anodizing is used to achieve an optimal protection for the aluminum. However, it can also be used in a decorative way, as coloration. Anodizing helps make surfaces resistant to corrosion, abrasion, and stains. The applied color is highly resistant, as well.
The aluminum keeps its structure after the anodizing. Anodizing is an electrochemical process which provides additional resistance against various interferences to the naturally occurring protective layer on the surface of the aluminum. The result is an anodic coating, which is part of the metal, however it has a porous structure which allows secondary effects, such as coloration. Usually this coating is dielectric and its thickness is 5 - 20 μm.
If the client desires, the profiles can be painted by electrostatic powder coating. The electrostatic application of powder polymeric materials is a method for applying anti-corrosive and decorative coatings on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, as well as on non-metals, glass and ceramics. The powder coat is applied on the pre-degreased parts in specialized cameras by the means of electrostatic field.
In subsequent calcination by an appropriately selected technological process – usually at 180-200ºC, the paint polymerizes and spills. Once it is cooled, the coating is ready to be used. Powder varnishes are made of 100% solid particles. The dust-layered profiles or fittings are significantly resistant to shock and scratching. Additional treatment with cutting tools is possible. Powder coating is without fogging and tears. Powder materials such as epoxy, epoxy-polyester, polyester and poly-urethane are supplied from Bulgaria, Austria, Germany, Italy, Greece, and Turkey.
The decorative options are wood effects and fantasies. The sublimation phase involves the use of a special transfer film Miroglio Sublitex, by which the wood patterns are transferred to the metal surfaces. A pouch is made out of the transfer film. The profile or the detail, pre-coated in powder base, is placed within the pouch. The air from the pouch is removed by a vacuum pump, allowing the transfer film to adhere. Then it is once again calcinated in a furnace at 190⁰С. The raw materials for this process include several powder bases and films. Their combination leads to different designs.
